The other side of the coin

Writer's picture: Giovanna AmoresGiovanna Amores

A pleasant journey took me to the sixth avenue that, in all its grandeur, was presented to me, with all the possibilities that only this city can offer. I was sure, more confident, and calm; I had all the aces up my sleeve. I was a warrior with steel heels and red lips.

Lights, glitter, illuminated buildings, smiles, joy, and a margarita accompanied me during the evening, while the Empire State Building covered me with its radiance.

My dress and my aura wore the golden color that night, and I remember dreamy looks, electrifying hugs, hands that guided me through different worlds, and each of them with a fascinating story for me to learn more about this world full of stars around me.

Every time I spin on the dance floor, lifted me into a state of ecstasy, I could do nothing but succumb to sounds, and my body only responded, as always, in my natural state to the rhythm.

Everyone had been through the same thing, lived the same stories, walked the same streets, listened to the same songs, went to the same places, made the same mistakes, each one of them already conquered you. And I, I felt that night I had made it, too. It was clear my luck has changed. I have lived in a month what they lived in years.

With admiration for my temper, tenderness, and understanding of what I experienced, I felt no longer like a stranger; I was welcomed and embraced by these souls. Being perfect in my beautiful imperfection was the part that made me human. I had seen long enough the other side of the coin, it is dark and ruthless, and it will probably remain the same way, but now the universe smiled at me.

It was freezing cold, and the sky was clear, so I decided to look at the stars:

- Look green eyes. There is the moon you love so much. He said

- Today she looks more elegant than ever; she never disappoints me. I answered

- Tell me, what ails you?

- Doesn't it distress you that we have only one satellite?

- I know what you're thinking. That the other side of the moon is dark

- And yet we get to see always her brighter side. I said

- Now, let me show you the other side of the coin. He replied

- Oh yes?

- Look

He pulls out a coin, flips it into the sky, as it spins, he says:

- Choose. Heads or tails?

- Well, tails,

- Watch this!

He glances at me; the coin resides on his hand, then he kisses it:

-You have won

I laughed for the accuracy of the analogy, a cold breeze touched the back of my head, and suddenly I remembered with a big smile some words I wrote a few days ago: The darker the night, the brighter the sunrise.
